Where else in the world can you find a region which can offer such a variety as the Haute Savoie. A region that only came part of France in the 1860’s. Chamonix, nestling below the majestic peaks of with Mont Blanc offers the mountaineer a haven for challenging the extremes. Annecy, which lies at the head of the cleanest lake in Europe, charms everyone that visit this ancient town. From the canals that wind their way through the old town to the small restaurants decked out in a mass of summer flowers waits to attract visitors from all around the globe. Chambery, the ancient capital of the Duchy of Savoy, has a history going back to the time of the Romans. It still has that indefinable style associated with capital cities. And to the north of the region lies Lake Leman, the frontier between Switzerland and France. Geneva, only an hour away from many of the places of interest within the Haute Savoie, offers a different culture from its neighbouring towns. An international city of culture and with an airport that connects you to all parts of the world. Within this area are many mountain villages. Le Grand Bornand is one and here you will find the traditions still continuing in the 21st century. The valley is the home to both the Reblochon and Tomme cheeses made the same way they have been for hundreds of years. In summer you hear to the gentle sound of the cow bells as you make your way over the flower strewn alpine pasture. A weekly street market sells local produce and crafts as it has done for many years. And within an hour of Le Grand Bornand is the Mont Blanc Tunnel connecting France and Italy. Drive down the Aosta valley and within 3 hours you are in Milan and the region of the Italian Lakes. |
